Authorities start giving away apartments to mothers with many children in Nur-Sultan

AKIPRESS.COM -  Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan, started issuing certificates for 150 rental apartments to large families standing in the queue for housing from the state.

150 apartments were provided to large families as part of the Berekeli Baspana urban rental housing program, primeminister.kz said.

The apartments are issued in two stages. Thus, at the first stage, until June 17, the collection and acceptance of documents is carried out, and from July 15, the settlement of apartments will begin.

In total of 46 thousand people stand in line to get housing in Nur-Sultan, and more than 3,000 of them are large families. Those are citizens categorized "socially vulnerable" such as mothers with many children, poor people, and people with disabilities. By the end of this year, about 2 thousand apartments will be issued in the capital.

In late February, then-President Nursultan Nazarbayev fired the government of Bakytzhan Sagintayev for a failure to raise living standards and diversify away from oil and gas. Askar Mamin was named the new Prime Minister.

The resignation of government followed a wave of protests by Kazakh women calling for more financial support for children and safer housing.
