LRT project in Nur-Sultan to be considered at meeting of State Commission for Capital’s Development

AKIPRESS.COM - The issue of completing the construction of a light rail transport project (LRT) in Nur-Sultan will be discussed at the meeting of the State Commission for the Capital’s Development on July 25, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Zhenis Kassymbek told a press conference following the government session.

The session addressed issues of execution of the President's instructions given July 15, 2019, at an extended meeting of the Government, the press service of the Prime Minister said.

“The project for the construction of an LRT system in Nur-Sultan has really dragged out and is being built not for the first year. The problem is that the funds from the first tranche of the loan allocated for the construction of LRT were in the liquidated Bank of Astana. Today, the Akimat of the capital, the National Bank of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Finance are taking measures to recover these funds,” Kassymbek said.

More than 80 billion tenge were frozen, therefore the construction of LRT has been temporarily suspended.

“We have the instruction from the president to complete this project, the akimat will present various options and mechanisms for the implementation of this project. We are considering the approximate project completion date — the end of 2020,” said Kassymbek.
