Mongolian FM reveives UNESCAP Executive Secretary

AKIPRESS.COM - Paying an official visit to Mongolia, Under Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar on August 19, Montsame reports.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation between Mongolia and UNESCAP. Expressing his confidence that the visit will significantly contribute to Mongolia-UNESCAP cooperation, Mr.Tsogtbaatar shared views on development issues, implementation of Sustainable Development Goals and some pressing issues of the region and asked UNESCAP to cooperate in strengthening activities of Investment Research Center, established under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Moreover, the Minister thanked the ESCAP for co-organization of a special session during the 6th international conference ‘Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on Northeast Asian Security’ held last June within the Northeast Asian Security Initiative submitted by Mongolian President, and put forward a request to cooperate with ESCAP in receiving supports from regional countries on the initiative.

In turn, Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana appreciated Mongolia’s active partnership with the UN, attaching its importance to cooperation with the UN, while expressing readiness to closely cooperate with the country in directions of SDGs implementation, environment, air pollution and digital economy. In addition, Mongolia was suggested to join the Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross-Border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific.
