New mufti elected in Turkmenistan

AKIPRESS.COM - The state information agency TDH reports that on 30 August the clergy meeting was held in Ashgabat which brought together religious leaders and Turkmenistan’s elders.

After extending gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov “for creating conditions to perform the Hajj”, the attendees elected chief imam of Lebap velayat Yalkab Khodzhagulyev the new mufti of Turkmenistan. Chief imam of Akhal region V. Ishangulyev was transferred to Lebap as his replacement. In his turn, chief imam of Geoktepe district T. Dzhemshidov was transferred to Akhal.

The appointees once again thanked the head of state and promised to work for the benefit of the country and educate the youth pursuant to the values and traditions of the Turkmen people.

The media outlet did not mention the specific reasons against the dismissal of the former mufti Charyheldi Seryayev and only briefly explained that the reshuffles were made “following the traditions of rotation”.
