AKIPRESS.COM - U.S. Under Secretary for Nuclear Security of the Department of Energy Lisa Gordon-Hagerty and Kanat Bozumbayev, the Energy Minister of Kazakhstan at the IAEA’s 63rd General Conference in Vienna have reached an agreement whereby both sides will work jointly to safely dispose of highly enriched uranium, the New Europe reports.
The main goal of the initiative is to ensure the non-proliferation of nuclear materials by transferring research reactors to low-enriched uranium fuel.
“The projects are being implemented jointly with American organisations,” the press service of Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry noted.
