President of Kyrgyzstan addresses nation over coronavirus

AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov addressed the nation March 18 after first 3 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Suzak district in the south of Kyrgyzstan on March 18.

"Unfortunately, this infection was confirmed in our country as well. In this situation, the most important task of the state is to protect the health of the population. The medical situation in the country is under full control," said Jeenbekov urging the people to strictly follow the rules.

"Every family is obliged to ensure personal hygiene fully. Do not go out and meet people without urgency. If symptoms of illness are detected, stay home, do not go anywhere and contact the doctors by phone," Jeenbekov said.

Every citizen coming from abroad must strictly follow the isolation and home quarantine rules, he said. All attempts to ignore and disregard these requirements will be punished.

Gatherings, entertainment activities, celebrations and mass events must be suspended. Schools and universities are suspended.

Borders, checkpoints and airports work in reinforced regime. Public order protection and control over the entry and exit of citizens is in high alert regime.

Kyrgyzstan has enough stocks of food, medicine and medical products, so there is no reason for panic, Jeenbekov said.

"Attempts to spread panic and disturb public order will be punished. We will not allow unreasonable price hikes for food and medicine," he said.

President highlighted that the further situation depends not only on the efforts of the authorities, but also on every citizen's behavior.

"I urge you not to panic, just follow all precautionary measures. We will succeed if every citizen will be well-aware of their own civic responsibility. In this challenging time, we must stay united and act together to stem coronavirus," the statement said.
