9,890 Mongolians want to return home from abroad

AKIPRESS.COM - 9,890 Mongolian citizens have submitted their request to return to their home country to the Government and the State Emergency Commission, Head of the State Emergency Commission and Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia U.Enkhtuvshin said on April 28, Montsame reports.

The Government of Mongolia is taking step-by-step measures to bring back citizens in foreign countries, based on the availability of facilities for 21-day compulsory isolation for those returning from abroad, sufficiency of medical staff to take care of them and other factors.

On April 30, a charter flight to Seoul will be conducted to bring Mongolian nationals transiting through the Republic of Korea. As for May 1 and 2, two flights will be conducted to Seoul and Frankfurt to bring the citizens who are living in the two countries, highlighted Deputy PM U.Enkhtuvshin.

"We are bringing our citizens from Russia and China through railways and autoroads. There are over 190 thousand Mongolian nationals that are currently abroad. As it is impossible to immediately bring back each and every citizen, elders, pregnant women, and people with young children are being prioritized. There have also been a few cases in which our citizens who wish to return to Mongolia have announced sit-ins outside of our embassies in some countries. Citizens must understand that organizing sit-ins will not result in government-organized charter flights and help increasing the capacity of isolation facilities. Currently, we only have the capacity to bring back those who are transiting through countries such as the Republic of Korea that have direct flights to Mongolia. We have no capacity to organize direct flights to India, Australia, and the U.S.," he said.

As of today, Mongolia has 38 confirmed cases of COVID-19, all are people returning from abroad, and no local transmission is detected in the country.
