Tikhanovskaya stayed incommunicado for several hours after she visited the election commission to protest against the presidential election results. Her campaign office said later they reached Tikhanovskaya and she was okay.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya — a political novice who has managed to galvanize the opposition — called on Lukashenko, in power since 1994, to step down, saying she had won Sunday's vote.
