Quarantine zone in Turkmenabat reportedly overcrowded

AKIPRESS.COM - Because of inbound passengers arriving in Turkmenistan in evacuation flights there is a shortage of beds in the quarantine zone of Turkmenabat, reports Chronicles of Turkmenistan.

In this connection those Turkmen nationals who have returned from abroad are accommodated in seven buildings of the former infectious diseases hospital and the psychiatric rehab facility located in the centre of Turkmenabat, according to correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.

A few years ago many patients diagnosed with chronic mental disorders were transferred to a psychiatric rehab center in Boyunuzyn. Over the past few days the city patients diagnosed with temporary mental disorders have been transferred there. As regards the infectious diseases hospital, it used to accommodate departments for patients diagnosed with hepatitis, gastrointestinal disorders and isolation wards where patients infected with rabies had temporarily undergone a course of treatment.

Intensive care units with all the necessary equipment have currently been set up in two-storey 6th and 7th buildings. Patients with serious medical conditions are admitted there.

Seven passengers who returned from Istanbul on 25 September were diagnosed with pneumonia. Three out of 120 inbound passengers who arrived from Uzbekistan on 23 September, 2020 were given the same diagnosis by healthcare practitioners. Such patients are treated in isolated departments in the hospital building which also accommodates the intensive care units.

Due to increased workload doctors are dissatisfied with the fact that no evacuation flights had been arranged before, which could have evenly distributed the burden on medical staff and hospitals.
