Mongolian PM resigns after outrage over treatment of coronavirus patient

AKIPRESS.COM - Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaa Khurelsukh resigned on Thursday after outrage over the treatment of a coronavirus patient who had just delivered a baby.

Mass public protests were triggered in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar after TV footage showed a coronavirus patient who had just given birth being transferred from a maternity hospital to a quarantine facility wearing only hospital pajamas and plastic slippers in freezing weather together with her newborn baby on Tuesday night, Xinhua reports.

Earlier on Thursday, Khurelsukh proposed the resignation of his entire government after Deputy Prime Minister Yangu Sodbaatar and Health Minister Togtmol Munkhsaikhan resigned on Wednesday amid social pressure and public protests.
