USAID supports healthcare workers in Uzbekistan to improve treatment of COVID-19 patients

AKIPRESS.COM - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), jointly with the National Chamber of Innovative Healthcare of Uzbekistan, organized online training for healthcare providers to improve treatment of critically-ill COVID-19 patients requiring critical care and mechanical ventilation. This training is a part of USAID’s Local Health Systems Sustainability project activity to support Uzbekistan’s response to COVID-19.

During the virtual event, health workers learned how to use Zoll ventilators and oxygen therapy principles for patients with severe forms of COVID-19. ICU experts from other countries working with the Zoll ventilators shared their experience and best practices on how to provide respiratory support, methods, and modes of ventilation for critically ill COVID-19 patients.

"Our doctors are learning the latest techniques for the use of mechanical ventilation devices, which is extremely important for the treatment of patients with severe pneumonia, caused by COVID-19," said RovshanIzamov, Chairman of the National Chamber of Innovative Healthcare. "The introduction of best international practices in the healthcare of Uzbekistan is one of the tasks of the National Chamber. We highly value USAID’s continued support in this area," he added.

In auutmn 2020, as part of the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting Uzbekistan in its fight against COVID-19, USAID donated 200 ventilators and essential supplies to the Ministry of Health. USAID also supports health workers learning to use this equipment, and provides ongoing maintenance for the first year so that this equipment will be safely used to improve patients’ care.
