Old house turned into museum in Sary-Mogol village near Lenin Peak

AKIPRESS.COM - Jeentai Tashkulov, a resident of Sary-Mogol village, Alay district, Osh region, turned an old house left of his grandfather into a museum. Turmush reporter visited the museum.

The Tashkulovs decided to create a museum in order to preserve the old house.

"We wanted to preserve the old house of my grandfather as well as old things that our fellow villagers had. We wanted to leave something for the future generation to remember. The museum displays things that my grandparents used," says Jeentai Tashkulov.

One of the rooms has a shop for tourists to buy handmade items like felt toys, yurts and items depicting Kurmanjan Datka. Most of the items on sale were made by Tashkulov's mother.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the flow of tourists decreased. Not a single tourist has come to Sary-Mogol village for a year. "Additional source of income for local residents is serving tourists from May to November. Now, as you know, coronavirus is raging. We hope that the situation will improve and tourists will return. Our citizens also come to see," Tashkulov said.

Sary-Mogol village is located near the Lenin Peak. It is the starting point of the climbers coming to ascend to the peak. Villagers are engaged in cattle breeding and providing tourist services.
