Germany sends 100,800 thousand doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Tajikistan via COVAX

AKIPRESS.COM - Tajikistan received 100,800 doses of COVID-19 vaccine donated by the Government of Germany through the COVAX facility.

The vaccines were delivered and transferred to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan and will be used as part of the Government of Tajikistan’s national immunization campaign to curb the transmission of the coronavirus in Tajikistan.

As part of the donations, Deputy Ambassador of Germany Mr. Rolf Traut made a visit to the Immunization Center within the Ministry of Health and met with the Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Gafur Muhsinzoda, UNICEF Representative Mr. Osama Makkawi, and the front line workers of the immunization Center.

Vaccines are part of the 30 million dose donations committed by the Government of Germany to provide equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccines. Earlier this year, it was noted that Germany is committing € 2.2 billion to the ACT Initiative, the bulk of which will be allocated to the COVAX program.

In Tajikistan, the Government of Germany also provided lifesaving equipment and essential medical supplies like PPEs, hazard utilization boxes, and disinfectants in a total amount of €1million euros aimed at strengthening the capacities of medical professionals in Tajikistan to tackle the negative impact of the COVID-19 in Tajikistan.
