U.S. ready to support Kazakhstan: Department of State

AKIPRESS.COM - "The United States remains concerned about the ongoing state of emergency in Kazakhstan. We condemn, in the strongest terms, the acts of violence and destruction of property and offer our deepest sympathies to those affected," said Department of State spokesperson Ned Price at a press briefing on January 6.

The United States urges the authorities and the people of Kazakhstan to find a peaceful and constructive resolution of the state of emergency by respecting constitutional institutions, human rights, and media freedom, including through the restoration of internet service, he said.

"We do believe that and we do hope that the Government of Kazakhstan will be able to address problems that manifested in these protests, problems that are fundamentally economic and political in nature. It is not our wont to be prescriptive in terms of our guidance, but again, as a partner to Kazakhstan, this is something that the United States would support. And if there are ways that we can help Kazakhstan address these challenges, the United States stands ready to do that," he said.
