USAID donates ICT equipment to Business Ombudsman of Uzbekistan

AKIPRESS.COM - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) handed over crucial video conferencing equipment to the Office of the Commissioner for Protection of Rights and Legitimate Interests of Entrepreneurs under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Business Ombudsman). The equipment, valued at approximately $54,000, will connect the Business Ombudsman’s Office and its regional branches and will enable entrepreneurs from across the country to apply for, and receive, rapid assistance.

The handover was made in Tashkent at the USAID-supported international forum “Integrated Approach to Promoting the Development of the Business Climate in Uzbekistan: Mechanisms for Protecting Business Rights, Reforming State Control and Combating Corruption.”

Speaking at the forum, USAID Deputy Mission Director Marcelo Arellano said: “Supporting inclusive, sustainable, and rapid economic growth in Uzbekistan is a cornerstone of USAID’s work here. An important element of United States support for economic growth in Uzbekistan is USAID’s partnership with the Business Ombudsman’s Office. The Office, and its regional representatives, play an essential role in protecting the rights of entrepreneurs. USAID has worked with our partners to fight corruption and to create an enabling environment that is friendly to business, investment, and entrepreneurs. We have made great progress, but there is still much to be done.”

The forum was organized by the Business Ombudsman’s Office. The event, supported by USAID, brought together 500 participants, including representatives of state and international organizations and entrepreneurs, who attended both in-person and remotely. The forum served as a platform to discuss the rights of businesses in Uzbekistan and the ongoing efforts to remove barriers to the development of the business environment.
