Uzgen is located 54 km from Osh city. The town foundation dates back to the 1st-2nd centuries B.C. It served as one of the trading stations of the Great Silk Road that connected Fergana and Kashgar.
In 11-12th centuries ,Uzgen was the capital of Karakhanid state of Maverannahr.
By its historical importance, Uzgen is no less valuable than such cities as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
