AKIPRESS.COM - On the occasion of the kick-off of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, on Sunday 20 November 2022 in Doha, hosted by the State of Qatar, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha extended his warm congratulations to the State of Qatar in particular, and to all OIC member states, on this great international sporting event hosted by Qatar, one of the OIC member states.

The OIC Secretary-General expressed to the leadership, government and people of the State of Qatar his sincere congratulations and best wishes for this great and well-deserved achievement, which is an accomplishment for Qatar and for all the countries and peoples of the OIC.

The Secretary-General stressed that this achievement was a result of the efforts made by the State of Qatar in the field of sport and the enhancement of youth capabilities, and wished the State of Qatar further progress and prosperity in all fields.

The OIC Secretary-General emphasized the role of sport in promoting peace, solidarity, social cohesion and socio-economic development, and highlighted that the global popularity of football can bring people together and play a positive role in promoting development and peace.
