AKIPRESS.COM - Asia needs coordinated work and rapid adaptation to economic conditions, ADB Vice President Shixin Chen said during the 56th annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank in Incheon.
Total investments under the CAREC program reached about $47 billion last year, he said.
Thus, $17 billion was financed by the ADB, about $21 billion by other European partners, and $9 billion by the governments of the CAREC member states.
In 2023, ADB plans to invest mainly in energy, agriculture, and transport projects.
The agenda of the Bank within the framework of programs for Central and Western Asia includes:
- Implementation of agricultural practices taking into account the climate agenda
- Improving healthcare system
- Improving disaster warning system
- Developing CAREC Climate Change Vision Framework
The climate situation will improve locally for some time. But from global pespective, if the changes do not slow down, it will be a big problem, the Bank said.
According to ADB study, up to 10% of cultivated land, large areas of pastures and some forest areas in Central Asia are subject to degradation and desertification.
CAREC member countries include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
