Uzbekistan bans sale of alcohol and tobacco products to persons aged under 21

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law restricting the sale of alcohol and tobacco products to persons aged under 21. The document was published on May 25 in the government newspaper Narodnoye Slovo and will come into force in three months.

The law provides for a ban on the sale of alcohol and tobacco products, devices for the use of tobacco and nicotine to persons aged under 21 (the legal drinking age was 20 years) and sellers who have not reached the same age (there were no age restrictions for them).

The law also states that the seller of alcohol, tobacco and devices for the use of tobacco and nicotine is obliged to require a buyer who looks younger than 21 years old to present a document proving his identity and age. If the buyer cannot present a document, the seller has to refuse to sell the products to them.

Alcohol and tobacco products cannot be sold without a medical warning about their harm on the container label.
