Uzbekistan and UNESCO discuss cultural heritage project in Aral Sea region

AKIPRESS.COM - The Ministry of Natural Resources of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with Head of UNESCO Tashkent Office Sara Noshadi, UzA reported.

The parties discussed the issue of strengthening cooperation in environmental education and natural resource management.

The need was noted for a phased transition to a green economy, introducing a digitalization system, environmental education, and culture, increasing the potential of personnel and specialists, and applying foreign experience in this process.

It was emphasized that the preparation of a national report on the state of the environment and the use of natural resources, as well as the compilation of a national list of ecological and natural heritage, is of great importance. A proposal was also made to open a UN Regional Climate Change Office in Tashkent.

The sies considered issues of developing an innovative project Aral Cultural Heritage Park in Aral Sea region, creating centers for visitors to cultural heritage sites, and developing strategically essential programs to prevent climate change. 

An agreement was reached on holding the Fourteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP14) in Samarkand this October.
