AKIPRESS.COM - The restoration of Almaty administration building, which was damaged by a fire during the 2022 January events, has been completed, Informburo.kz reports.
Reconstruction began in February 2022 by the order of the head of state. The building was heavily damaged by fire - 80% of the structure was damaged during the January events. Six floors and four pavilions burned out, and there was a water leak in the basement caused by the fire protection system and incidents of looting.
The first floor of the administration was reconstructed into open space Almaty, including a public reception area, a waiting area, a meeting room, rooms for receiving the population, a mother and child room and a playground for children.
"The difficulty was that the building was not fully inspected after the January events. The dismantling process revealed certain difficulties that required replanning of the structure. For example, several floor slabs have lost their strength. They had to be refilled and strengthened in a new way," explained general contractor Amirzhan Nabiev.
Elevators, electric lifts, tactile tiles, call buttons, ramps, equipped bathrooms were set up in the building. Other amenities designed to increase accessibility for people with disabilities were also created.
In total, the building has 360 offices, designed for 700 people. The total area of the facility is more than 33,000 m2, which will house 14 departments and the head of administration's office.
The general contractor carried out seismic reinforcement work. Strict compliance with fire safety regulations is also ensured.
The administration will begin to fully operate in the reconstructed building in coming weeks.
