Four countries develop roadmap for North-South corridor - PM Smailov

AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan in cooperation with Russia, Iran and Turkmenistan has developed a roadmap for the North-South international transport corridor, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov said, Tass reports.

"The Prime Minister added that Kazakhstan is taking measures at the same time to unlock the potential of the North-South transport corridor. To develop this route, the roadmap was developed jointly with Iran, Turkmenistan and Russia, whose implementation will make it possible to increase the corridor capacity from 10 to 15 mln metric tons by 2027," the Prime Minister’s press service said.

The Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran railway is also of particular importance, the Prime Minister noted. The freight traffic along this route with the destination in Iran gained 9% and was above 1.5 mln metric tons. It is feasible "to strengthen joint efforts for removal of administrative barriers and for deepening of integration of transport and logistical systems," Smailov stressed.
