AKIPRESS.COM - Aisuluu Tynybekova has won the Women’s Wrestler of the Year award, according to the United World Wrestling.
"Tynybekova orchestrated a triumphant return to the top of the global stage in 2023, amassing an unparalleled 95,575 Ranking Series points after winning titles at the World Championships, Asian Championships, Hungarian and Egyptian Ranking Series events while also closing out the season with an Asian Games bronze medal," UWW said.
"As crazy as it sounds, Tynybekova, at 30 years of age, turned the clock back in 2023 and put together the best 12-month stretch of her career. The reinvigorated Kyrgyz star showed how motivated she was to get back to top form during the two biggest competitions of the season–the World and Asian Championships," UWW stated.
At the Asian Championships, Tynybekova won her three bouts but scored back-to-back wins over her two biggest rivals, who double fellow world champs, Nonoka Ozaki (JPN) and Orkhon Purevjorj (MGL), on her path to winning a fifth Asian Championship title.
Tynybekova continued her tactical dismantling of the 62kg field in Belgrade with five victories–including wins over Olympic bronze medalists Iriyna Koliadenko (UKR) and Japan’s world bronze medalist Sakura Motoki (JPN).
Tynybekova made Kyrgyz history in Paris, becoming her nation’s first-ever world medal; in Nur-Sultan, becoming their first-ever world champion; in Tokyo, becoming their first-ever Olympic medalist; in Oslo, becoming their first-ever two-time world champion; and in Belgrade, she became Kyrgyzstan’s first-ever three-time world champion.
