Earthquake death toll rises to 131 in NW China

AKIPRESS.COM - The magnitude-6.2 earthquake that jolted Jishishan County in northwest China's Gansu Province late Monday evening has killed 113 people in Gansu and 18 in neighboring Qinghai Province, authorities said on Wednesday, CGTN reported.

The death toll was updated on Wednesday morning, and rescuers are still working to locate more survivors in the extreme cold.

Apart from the deceased, 198 people were injured in Qinghai, while 16 others remain missing. In Gansu, the number of injured has risen to 782; they were all admitted to hospitals, according to authorities from the two provinces.

Authorities in Gansu also said 87,076 people have been relocated so far in light of the disaster.
