AKIPRESS.COM - Iran will become a large transport hub soon due to the agreement on the creation of a free trade zone signed with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Mohammad Mohammadi Bakhsh, the head of the republic’s Civil Aviation Organization, said in an interview with the Iranian news agency IRNA.
"The fact that our country enjoys access to open waters enables us to carry cargoes along the North-South corridor, and as air transport connection with EAEU member states develops Iran will turn into a major transport hub," he said.
Considering the country’s geopolitical position and the experience of haulage by different means of transport, there is huge potential for development of air transport relations with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union with the purpose of satisfying their needs in this area, the official added.
On December 25, EAEU nations signed a free trade agreement with Iran. The ceremony of the document’s signing was held within the framework of the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg, which was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
