AKIPRESS.COM - Chief of press service of the President's Administration Dairbek Orunbekov commented on why the flag raised over Ala-Too Square in Bishkek differs from the flag passed by the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
"After the Parliament adopted the bill on change of the flag, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted the final variant of the flag with additions and approved it with its resolution. Yes, rays were separated from tunduk before, now 40 rays are attached to tunduk," he said.
On September 28, 2023, the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan brought up the bill on change of the flag of Kyrgyzstan for public discussion. The bill was initiated by Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev and MP Ulan Primov. They proposed to change the shape of rays on the flag from wavy into straight ones, which precisely resemble the sun rays.

President Sadyr Japarov said then he supports the initiative and showed the reworked variant of the flag, where rays were separated from the tunduk. During the second kurultay on December 6, the President admitted he is initiator of the change of the flag and asked the Parliament Speaker about that.

Another variant was demonstrated in Parliament in December - the rays were straight, the tunduk consisted of 4 lines. On December 19, the bill was considered by the Parliament for Constitutional Legislation, where several MPs asked not to separate rays from tunduk. They were told the written proposals should be submitted earlier and they missed the deadline. On December 20, the Parliament passed the bill on change of the flag without discussion.

On December 22, President Sadyr Japarov signed the law.
On January 1, the National Guard raised a new flag, which differs from the flag adopted by the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.

The Parliament and President's Administration did not publish the variant of the flag, which was adopted eventually.
