
AKIPRESS.COM - The population of Kazakhstan grew by 247,800 people or 1.25% during January-November 2023. The country's population reached 20,015,000 people by December 1, vlast.kz reports, citing the Bureau of National Statistics.
The population grew the most in the capital (by 5.11%), in Almaty (by 2.82%), in Mangistau region (by 2.40%), in Shymkent (by 2.26%) and in Almaty region (by 1.55%).
The population of Astana reached 1,423,700 people by December 1, Almaty 2,222,800 , and Shymkent 1,219,100.
In general, population growth was observed in 14 regions of Kazakhstan in January-November. A decrease in population was noted in Abay, Zhetysu, East Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Pavlodar and North Kazakhstan regions. Natural population decline is still observed in North Kazakhstan region.
Migration outflow continues in 15 out of 20 regions of Kazakhstan. Migration population growth is observed only in Almaty and Mangistau regions, Shymkent, Almaty and Astana.
The migration balance was positive in the country as a whole in eleven months.
The country's urban population in January-November grew by 1.81% to 12,431,000 people, the rural population by only 0.35% to 7,583,000 people. The share of the urban population in Kazakhstan is 62.1%, the share of the rural population is 37.9%.
