Mongolian and UK MPs discuss parliamentary reforms in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - Secretary of the Mongolian Parliament Enkhbat Damdin met with Chair of the British All-Party Parliamentary Group for Mongolia James Gray on January 31.

Secretary Enkhbat Damdin emphasized that this visit is a significant event in bringing relations and cooperation between the parliamentary groups of our two countries to a new level.

"We will mobilize all our resources to implement the issues discussed during the meeting. We highly appreciate the contribution of Chair of the British All-Party Parliamentary Group for Mongolia James Gray to the development of relations and cooperation between our countries," he added.

In turn, James Gray noted that the Mongolian Parliament amended the Constitution and legalized the mixed electoral system, increasing the number of MPs to 126. The Chair emphasized the importance of the visit in this context. He also asked that attention be given to introducing best practices and working methods of the British Parliament in accordance with the needs of the Mongolian Parliament and the reform goals.

Secretary General Enkhbat Damdin met with Clerk of the House of Commons Tom Goldsmith. Enkhbat Damdin emphasized that the Mongolian government highly values the UK's contribution to strengthening democratic governance in Mongolia after 1990 and the transition to a new socio-economic system.
