Russian climber Eugeny Glazunov found dead in Batken mountains

AKIPRESS.COM - Russian climber Eugeny Glazunov was found dead in the mountains in Batken region.

The body was found on February 22, Turmush reported with reference to the mountaineers who were searching for Glazunov.

According to some information, the rockfall occurred in the area. Eugeny almost descended.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported ealier the Russian climber was ascending the Aksuu peak (Leilek gorge, Turkestan range). Last contact with him was on February 16.

Rescuers of the republican rescue team were involved into the search for the Russian climber since February 20.

Glazunov was from Irkutsk region. Two Russian mountaineers Alexey Boiko of St. Petersburg and Anatoly Syshchikov of Yekaterinburg arrived in Kyrgyzstan for search for the missing climber.

The peak of the Leilek gorge mountain group form a rock barrier, encircling the glacier: from west to east these are the peaks of Iskander (5120 m), Petrogradets (5165 m), Admiralteets (5090 m), Aksuu (5355 m), A. Blok (5229 m), Aktyubek (5125 m), Dostoevsky (4974 m). From the base camp at an altitude of 3000 meters, the approach to the upper reaches of the Aksuu glacier takes 2-3 hours.
