AKIPRESS.COM - Electricity Minister of Iraq Ziad Ali Fadel announced that the country is negotiating with Tehran to transfer Turkmenistan's gas from Iran's gas transmission lines, Iran Oil Gas reported.
"A delegation from Iraq had already traveled to Turkmenistan and signed a contract to import 20 million cubic meters of gas," the Electricity Minister said.
Iraq is currently negotiating with the Iranian side to deliver Turkmenistan's gas through Iran's pipelines, Ziad Ali Fadel added. This 20 million cubic meters has been replaced due to gas cut by Iran.
The Iraqi official confirmed that Iran is currently investigating the matter and if it agrees, Turkmen gas supplies will start next summer.
The two states signed an agreement on gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Iraq in November 2023. According to the document, 9 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas will be transported annually through Iran to Iraq under a swap scheme within 5 years.
