AKIPRESS.COM - The video with brawl of young people was spread across social networks in Kyrgyzstan on May 17. The same day the police said the fight occurred on May 13 in a hostel on Budynnyi street in Bishkek.
The police said at around 9:30 pm on May 13 they received information that foreigners on that address disturbed public order. The dispatched police group learned that foreigners were allegedly hiding from unknown people, who threatened with physical violence.
Sources of AKIpress said the conflict between foreign students and locals started in a cafe and continued in a hostel, where foreigners lived.
The criminal probe was launched into hooliganism by police only on May 17 after spread of the video.
Young people began gathering on the cross of Chui Prospekt and Kurmanjan Datka street in Bishkek in late hours of May 17, near the hostel. They were outraged by the incident and demanded to punish foreigners and to resolve the problem of illegal migration. Bishkek police chief Azamat Toktonaliev met with protesters, he asked young people to disperse. He told protesters 3 foreigners were detained.
Protesters refused to listen to the police chief. The rumors were circulating among the mob that citizens of Kyrgyzstan were detained in connection with the incident. More people were joining the protesters. Police brought several citizens to the police station for disturbance of public order. They were released later.
Police released the video with detained foreigners then. The foreigners brought apologies.
Despite the request to disperse, the crowd was growing to more than 1000 people. The videos were spread in social networks about people gathering at the International University of Kyrgyzstan. The dormitories where foreign students live were guarded by police.
The Bishkek police chief remained at the site of the protest. He called the information that citizens of Kyrgyzstan died as a result of fight in the hostel a fake and asked young people to leave. Protesters demanded a meeting with the leadership of the country. Some time later it was announced that the fourth suspect in the case, also a foreigner, was detained.
Protesters began dispersing only by dawn. Traffic resumed.
State National Security Committee Chairman Kamchybek Tashiev made a video address on the morning of May 18. He supported the demands of the protesters, who are concerned about the growing number of migrants. Tashiev said there were provocateurs in the crowd, who came with weapon. They were detained. The National Security Committee will continue work to curb violation of laws by migrants, he said.
The Ministry of the Interior said there were no lethal cases and injured among foreigners and locals. However, the Ministry of Health said 29 foreigners sought medical assistance: two had closed craniocerebral injuries, concussion, a national of Pakistan had broken jaw and needed a surgery.
The Interior Ministry said the situation is under control.
