AKIPRESS.COM - Border Patrol agents in California have been told to immediately deport illegal adult migrants from Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, according to a leaked memo obtained by The Post.
At the same time, border patrol agents were told to release migrants from over 100 countries into the US, memo said. Migrants from all but six countries in what border patrol calls the ‘eastern hemisphere’ – made up of Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe – who cross illegally into the San Diego border sector will be released into the US according to the memo, first reported by the Washington Examiner. They will be released with a future court date but won’t be able to pursue asylum, according to Fox News.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) also confirmed to Fox the order only applies to the San Diego sector, which is currently the busiest area for illegal crossings in the US and has seen the majority of people arriving from countries outside of the Americas.
Earlier, US President Biden announced new measures that will block migrants’ access to the U.S. asylum system when illegal border crossings are at emergency levels, a move aimed at shoring up one of his biggest vulnerabilities to reelection in November.
Biden’s executive actions impose broad restrictions on asylum as long as illegal border crossings remain above an average of 2,500 per day, administration officials said.
According to the NYP, citing data from the Border Patrol, over 10,000 migrants crossed the southern border this weekend.
