Tennis player from Kazakhstan wins against World No. 1 at Wimbledon

AKIPRESS.COM - World No. 1 Iga Świątek from Poland lost to Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan, who ranks 35th in the world rating, in the third round of Wimbledon on Saturday.

After taking the first set, Świątek lost 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Iga Świątek has won five Grand Slam events since starting on the WTA circuit in 2018, but has never won Wimbledon.

23-year-old Świątek will train for Roland-Garros at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

Yulia Putintseva, 29, has reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and the U.S. Open, but has never advanced beyond the second round of Wimbledon.

In the 1/8 finals, Putintseva will play with Jeļena Ostapenko from Latvia.
