AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested creation of the Turkic Environmental Council in Nukus in his contribution during informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Shusha.
"It would be correct to say that our Organization covers the region that has suffered the most damage from climate change. I hope you will support our initiative to establish a Turkic Environmental Council at the ministerial level to systematically address existing problems. It would be appropriate to locate the headquarters of this structure in Nukus, a large city in the Aral Sea region, the region that has suffered the most from the environmental disaster," President Mirziyoyev said.
President Mirziyoyev said the voice of the Turkic world is becoming increasingly louder in the area of international climate cooperation.
"The upcoming 29th UN Climate Action Summit (COP-29), which will be held in November this year in Baku, will be a major historical event for all our countries. I sincerely wish the summit of world leaders on climate change to be successful," the President noted.
Mirziyoyev stressed that Uzbekistan is ready to take an active part in this forum and provide Azerbaijan with comprehensive assistance.
