AKIPRESS.COM - Resident of Uch-Kainar village located in Ak-Suu district of Issyk-Kul region, Venera Seidinova, keeps ostriches on her farm.
She started breeding these large flightless birds, which can weigh up to 150-170 kg and reach 2.7 meters in height, two years ago.
Previously, Seidinova raised Alatau and Simmental cattle. To increase her income and fulfill a dream, she bought three ostriches for $1000 each in Bishkek. Despite initial fears, the birds adapted quickly. Villagers were initially surprised and scared, but now they come to take pictures and watch the ostriches dance.
Seidinova noted that ostriches consume less feed than cattle and don't require much attention. She has one male and two females, named Nazbiyke, Khanbiyke, and Iygilik. They lay 3-4 eggs daily, each weighing 1-2 kg. Ostrich eggs can feed six people, and they sell for 3,000 soms each. Ostrich meat, sold for 800-1000 soms per kg, is in demand for its medicinal benefits, according to the farmer.
Seidinova believes that it is possible to earn good money in the rural areas, too.
She also raises broiler chicks and sells milk to support her family. She emphasizes the importance of hard work and self-sufficiency in rural life.
Venera Seidinova is also active in her village's public life.
