Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of Central Asian countries and South Korea takes place in Ashgabat

AKIPRESS.COM - The second meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea was held in Ashgabat on October 14, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported.

It was noted at the meeting that in recent years, along with the traditional issues on the multilateral cooperation agenda between the states of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea, the inter-parliamentary dialogue has gained importance in the implementation of agreements at the highest level, as well as in the expansion of practical cooperation.

The role of inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups, whose activities serve as an effective tool for mutual understanding between peoples, was emphasized.

The event included the plenary session, as well as sessions entitled "Economic Cooperation, Digital Economy and Industry" and "Cooperation between Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea to mitigate climate change on the way to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals".

The participants of the meeting, having highlighted the need for the format "Central Asia - Republic of Korea", stressed that for the successful implementation of joint plans it is necessary to bring the partnership between the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea to a qualitatively new level.

In the context of exchange of national experience on strengthening the legal basis of cooperation, the participants shared their views on modern methods of improving parliamentary and lawmaking activities, development of mechanisms for establishing ties between parliamentary Friendship groups, specialized committees, women parliamentarians and young deputies.

It was emphasized that the meeting of the speakers of the National Assembly of Korea and Central Asian parliaments is an effective platform for regular dialogue and defining of priority areas of cooperation.

The Joint Declaration was adopted following the meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea.
