AKIPRESS.COM - The 2024 Student Hackathon: Digitalisation for Development was hosted by the University of Central Asia on 8–9 November in Bishkek. The event brought together 70 talented students from universities in Bishkek and various regions of the country such as Naryn and Tokmok. Demonstrating a strong interest in digital innovation within the country’s student community, the hackathon attracted about 200 applications from universities nationwide.
Participants from institutions such as UCA, Kyrgyz State Technical University, Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, Ala-Too International University, Kyrgyz National Agrarian University (KNAU), and the American University of Central Asia competed in 17 teams. Over an intensive 18-hour period, they developed socially impactful digital solutions focusing on three key areas: the digitalisation of public services; artificial intelligence (AI), big data and cybersecurity; and quality of life/smart cities.
The hackathon culminated in team presentations, showcasing innovative solutions such as educational platforms, apps designed to reduce traffic violations, and digital spaces to support volunteer initiatives. These projects highlighted the students' creativity and their commitment to driving positive change.
Arsen, a participant from KNAU, reflected on his experience: “The hackathon was not only an opportunity for our team to connect with peers from other universities but also a unique platform to bring our idea to life—creating a product that unites volunteers from across Kyrgyzstan.”
Winning teams will be recognized in categories such as Original Idea, Innovative Approach, and Creative Solution. The award ceremony will take place during the Digital Forum 2024, scheduled for 14–15 November in Bishkek.
The hackathon was a key feature of the Digital Forum, organised by the University of Central Asia in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, with support from the Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank (KICB), Alfa Telecom (Mega), Salymbekov University, Green Light and Consulting, and Light Academy College of Engineering.
