Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan sign agreement on green energy partnership

AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan signed a strategic partnership agreement on "green" energy development and transmission at the COP29 summit in Baku on November 13, the presidential press service reported.

According to the agreement, the parties will strengthen cooperation on clean and renewable energy sources, supply "green" energy to Europe and other regions, develop projects for the production and transportation of sustainable hydrogen and ammonia, and develop energy infrastructure, including exploring the possibility of connecting to the Black Sea submarine power line.

The sides intend to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. Particular attention will be paid to "green" investments in renewable energy production capacities.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at the signing ceremony, emphasized the environmental significance of the project, noting that renewable energy is an investment in the future.

Mirziyoyev, in particular, stated that Uzbekistan plans to increase the share of renewable sources to 40% and create energy storage systems with a capacity of 4.2 GW by 2030. The project is expected to have a significant economic effect, create new jobs and contribute to improving the living standards of the population of the participating countries.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the agreement opens up new opportunities for integrating the energy systems of the three countries, as well as for creating reliable corridors for the supply of "green" energy to the European and other markets.

"Kazakhstan plays an extremely important role here as a large transit territory. The results of this agreement will also contribute to the development of the Middle Corridor as a "green bridge" connecting our economies. Close cooperation in this key area will intensify the exchange of experience and advanced technologies between the three countries and will further strengthen our energy security," Tokayev noted. He added that Kazakhstan has agreed with foreign partners to implement "green" projects with a total capacity of 43 GW.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev noted that the agreement takes the fraternal relations and strategic partnership between the three countries to a new level.

Head of the Department of Foreign Policy of the President's Administration of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev reported on social media that the project will be linked to the Black Sea submarine cable, thus forming a new green energy corridor.
