AKIPRESS.COM - Elections to the the lower chamber of the Parliament of Tajikistan, as well as to the local councils will be held on March 2, 2025, according to the decree of President Emomali Rahmon.
Elections to the upper chamber of the Parliament are scheduled for March 28, 2025.
The previous elections were held in March 2020.
The lower chamber of the Parliament consists of 63 members, of which 22 are elected by proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency, 41 in single-member constituencies using the two-round system. The upper chamber consists of 33 members. Eight will be appointed by the country's president, 25 of them will be elected by regional and city councils.
Following the 2020 elections, 47 seats in parliament were taken by the People's Democratic Party (PDPT), the remaining seats were distributed between the Agrarian Party, the Party of Economic Reforms, the Communist, Socialist and Democratic Parties of Tajikistan.
