AKIPRESS.COM - President of Mongolia U. Khurelsukh conducted a state visit to Uzbekistan on June 23-26. The heads of state agreed to collaborate on exporting wool, cashmere, leather, meat, and meat products from Mongolia to the Uzbek market and, through Uzbekistan, to other Central Asian countries. They also agreed to import fruits, berries, and vegetables from Uzbekistan, GoGo reported.

As part of this cooperation, an agreement was reached to export 100,000 live animals from Mongolia. Following the President's visit, Mongolian Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry J. Enkhbayar finalized the agreement for exporting live sheep during his participation in the Food Security and Sustainable Development Goals of Landlocked Developing Countries summit held in Uzbekistan.

As of December 21, Mongolia has transported 1,440 live sheep to Uzbekistan through two separate flights, marking the implementation of the agreement reached during the state visit. This initiative demonstrates progress in enhancing Mongolia's collaboration with Asian countries in the agricultural sector, expanding trade and economic cooperation, and increasing live animal exports.

In 2023, trade turnover between Mongolia and Uzbekistan reached $10 million. Mongolia exported $4.6 million worth of processed sheep and lamb skins, intestines, and frozen meat from sheep, goats, and cattle. In return, it imported $5.4 million worth of goods from Uzbekistan, including grapes, fruits, food products, refrigeration equipment, and trucks.
