AKIPRESS.COM - Switzerland is ready to organize and host a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, if they ask for it, according to Le Temps, citing the Head of Communication, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Nicolas Bideau.
"Following the summit in Bürgenstock, Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. have been regularly informed of our willingness to support any diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing peace," Bideau said.
However, the report says that Swiss authorities are not seeking to take the initiative in organizing the talks. According to the newspaper, Switzerland is just one of the countries on the list of potential venues for the leaders’ meeting.
Both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have expressed readiness for such a meeting. On January 7, the U.S. president-elect deemed any contact with President Putin inappropriate before his inauguration, which is scheduled for January 20.
