Death toll of hotel fire rises to 76 in Turkey

AKIPRESS.COM - Rescuers have completed searching for the survivors and extinguishing fire at the Grand Kartal hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in Turkey. The death toll has risen to 76, and the country has declared national mourning, TRT Haber reports, citing Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

Nine people have been detained as part of the investigation into the causes of the fire, according to the Minister. Inspectors have arrived at the scene and are investigating "the construction process of this hotel" in search of possible design flaws. The results will be presented after the completion of the administrative investigation.

The fire in the restaurant of the Grand Kartal was reported on the morning of January 21. At the time of the incident, 237 people were residing in the building, and 51 people were injured. Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc reported that four people, including the hotel owner, had been detained in connection with the fire.
