
AKIPRESS.COM - A Turkmen delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov paid a visit to Uzbekistan on January 26-27. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan held political consultations during the visit, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported.
The sides discussed the development of political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries, and noted the importance of regular contacts at the highest level.
The important role of parliamentary diplomacy in the progressive development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations was emphasized. Close cooperation within regional and international structures, in particular the UN, was highlighted.
The parties noted the significance of holding political consultations at the beginning of 2025, declared upon the initiative of Turkmenistan as the International Year of Peace and Trust by the Resolution of the UN General Assembly.
Particular emphasis was placed on intensifying cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. The importance of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation and other mechanisms of cooperation was noted.
The diplomats also considered issues of deepening cooperation in the transport and logistics, energy, water and industrial sectors.
The sides also discussed significant aspects of cultural and humanitarian relations. In this context important role of holding cultural days to strengthen cultural connections between two countries was emphasized. The effectiveness of contacts in science, education, and cinematography was noted.
Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov and Uzbekistan B. Saidov signed the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan for 2025-2026 and Protocol on inventory and improvement of the legal framework of the Turkmen-Uzbek relations.
