AKIPRESS.COM - U.S. President Donald Trump said at a briefing at the White House that there were no survivors of the collision of an American Airlines plane and a Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, NBC News reported.

He said that a large-scale search and rescue operation was carried out all night, during which all available resources were used.

He noted that there were Russian citizens on board. The U.S. government is in contact with Russia about the tragedy, he said, adding that the country will help transfer the bodies to Russia.

An American Airlines passenger plane and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed into the Potomac River after a mid-air collision. The collision occurred near Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington on the evening of January 29. There were 64 people on board: 60 passengers and four crew members.

The U.S. Figure Skating Association said the plane was carrying several skaters, coaches and their families who were returning from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas. Skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov of the Russian national team were reported to be on board.
