
AKIPRESS.COM - between The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Iran held political consultations in Tehran on February 12, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported.
The Turkmen side was headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, and the Iranian side was headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
The sides exchanged views on issues of bilateral partnership in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields.
The parties noted the contribution of the regular dialogue at the highest political level to the further strengthening of traditional good-neighborly ties.
Noting the importance of the International Year of Peace and Trust, the delegations discussed the possibilities of increasing Turkmen-Iranian cooperation to strengthen international peace, stability and sustainable development.
The importance of partnership within the UN, as well as other international and regional structures, in particular the ECO and OIC, was emphasized. The sides reviewed issues on the international and regional agenda.
The delegations highlighted the importance of interparliamentary relations. It was noted that the interparliamentary friendship group of the two countries is successfully working in this direction. The upcoming events were discussed.
A separate topic of discussion was trade and economic cooperation. Bilateral trade turnover indicators were considered. The fuel and energy and transport sectors were named among the priorities.
The parties outlined further steps to implement the projects, including in the field of water resources management. The leading role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was noted.
In addition, the meeting participants discussed issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including holding joint events this year. The possibilities of strengthening ties in science, education, healthcare and sports were considered.
