FIFA considers proposal for 64-team men's World Cup in 2030

AKIPRESS.COM - FIFA is considering expanding the number of teams in the 2030 World Cup to 64, reports say.

According to The New York Times, this will be a one-time increase, as the tournament already plans to feature 48 teams starting from the 2026 World Cup.

The 2030 World Cup will mark 100 years since the first tournament and the expansion to 64 teams could serve as a symbolic gesture to honor that anniversary.

The 2030 World Cup will be one of the most monumental in history, as it will be the first to be held across three continents - South America, Europe and Africa. Six countries will host the event: Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.
