Two participants die during Almaty Half Marathon

AKIPRESS.COM - During the Almaty Half Marathon, two participants, 84-year-old Akkoyan Rsaliyev and 21-year-old Nurbol Akhmadi, died. Both were running the half marathon distance (21.1 km) and were regular participants in races in Almaty.

According to the marathon organizers, doctors, emergency services and the police acted in a timely manner. Despite the measures taken, it was not possible to save the participants.

The half marathon took place along the route from the First President's Park to the Central Stadium on the morning of April 20. Akkoyan Rsaliyev has been a regular participant in races since 2021. Previously, he successfully covered the 21.1 km and 10 km distances at the Almaty Half Marathon and Almaty Marathon.

On the first kilometer of the distance on Al-Farabi Avenue, Rsaliyev suddenly felt ill. A minute later an ambulance team arrived to him, but there was no pulse.

The second man, Nurbol Akhmadi, had previously participated in the 10 km distance of the Winter Run 2025, registered for the half marathon in Astana and Almaty, as well as the marathon in Almaty. At the 16 km distance, the runner lost consciousness and died before the ambulance arrived.
