About 9,900 foreign citizens work in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - The number of foreign workers in Mongolia rose by 1,800 compared to the first quarter of 2024, Montsame reports, citing the National Statistics Office of Mongolia.

Around 9,900 people from 103 countries are working in Mongolia under labor contracts. 8,500 were men and 1,400 were women. The majority, 1,800, were aged between 35 and 39, and the minority were aged 20 or younger.

Among the foreign nationals, 3.500 had bachelor's or university degrees, 3,700 technical and professional certificates, 1,300 high school degrees, 1,100 college degrees, 289 master's or PhD degrees, and four no school degree.

Of the foreign nationals with labor contracts, 60.2% were from China, 6.4% from India, 5.3% from Vietnam, 4.9% from the Philippines, 3.3% from Russia, 2.9% from the Republic of Korea, 2.8% from the U.S., 1.7% from Türkiye, 1.5% from Australia, and 11.1% from other countries.

2.500 people work in the mining and exploration industry, 1,300 in education sector, 1,200 in wholesale or retail businesses, car and motorbike repair services, 1,100 in manufacturing, 1,100 in construction, 608 in transportation and warehouse service, and 1,500 in other industries, while 648 work at International organizations and local subsidiaries. The number of foreign nationals in the mining and exploration industry rose by 747, but the construction sector fell by 219 expats.
