The Russian government has officially terminated the military-technical cooperation agreement with Germany, originally signed in 1996. The decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The agreement contained eight articles and included provisions for cooperation between military industries and defense ministries of both countries, the establishment of a joint Russian-German commission on military cooperation, protection of shared military secrets and a mutual obligation not to sell jointly developed weapons to third countries.
According to Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement "no longer corresponds to the current state of Russian-German relations," blaming the breakdown on Germany's "hostile policies" and what they described as the German government's "militaristic ambitions."
Mishustin has instructed the Foreign Ministry to officially notify Germany of the decision.
