Born in 1969 in Kamenets-Podolsky, Ukraine, Sergey Entts realized early on the importance of an economic education for future success. This insight led him to Moscow State University, where he graduated from the Department of Economics in 1992 and then continued with postgraduate studies. Even during his student years, he ventured into various business activities. It was a time of great uncertainty, as Russia’s financial markets were just beginning to emerge. After gaining experience in different sectors of finance, Sergey Entts and a group of his university peers co-founded a commercial bank in 1994.
Over the next three decades, Russia’s banking sector endured repeated crises, with the number of banks shrinking tenfold. Yet, Derzhava Bank, managed by Sergey Entts and his co-founders, not only survived but thrived – consistently ranking among the top 20 most efficient banks in the country. Much of this success can be attributed to the single-product strategy that Sergey Entts initiated. A concentrated focus on securities investment and partnerships with major exchanges later became a core area of growth for Derzhava. His strong academic foundation, sharp business instincts, and adaptability were critical to the success of his ventures in banking, investment, and FinTech. His exceptional ability to navigate shifting market conditions allowed him to steer the bank through every fluctuation.
A major turning point came when the bank started offering remote banking guarantees. This innovation was a game-changer – Derzhava Bank became the first in the world to offer such a product, which is now widely adopted by leading global financial institutions. Yet, Derzhava continues to hold a leading position in this market segment.
Sergey Entts’ ventures – both the bank and his other projects – have always maintained independence, unaffiliated with large corporations or government structures, and consistently focused on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. He embraced sustainable development principles long before they became a trendy topic.
At the start of his career, Sergey Entts was deeply immersed in daily operations of the bank to obtain a thorough understanding of every internal process. Over time, he shifted his focus to strategic development and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2014 to 2023.
Today, Sergey Entts is recognized as an expert in overseeing strategic corporate governance, creating innovative banking products, investing in FinTech and emerging technologies.
